Kerasma is an app for saving your family's recipes and sharing them privately with
each other. It shows no advertising, and it never follows you across other apps or websites.
This page explains what information it holds, and why.
What the app collects
Your Google account name, email address and profile picture, but only
if you choose to sign in. Signing in is optional; without an account, everything
stays on your device.
What you create in the app: recipes you add or edit, photos you take of
a dish or of the card a recipe was written on, voice memos you record for a recipe, your
grocery list, the recipes you have starred, and the record of what you have cooked.
Your microphone, only while you record a voice memo, and only once you
have allowed it. The app hears nothing at any other time.
Recipes you ask somebody for. If you ask a relative or friend for a recipe,
the app keeps who you asked and for what, until their answer is in your recipe box or you
call the ask off.
A notification token, if you allow notifications, so the app can tell
you when someone in your family changes a recipe.
Crash reports, unless you turn them off in the app's Settings. If the
app crashes, a report of where in the app it broke is sent so it can be fixed, with the
app version, the device model and its operating system version. Crash reports never
include your recipes. On Android they never say who you are; the Windows app files them
under your account's random account number (never your name or email), which is also how
they are deleted with your account.
Usage statistics, unless you turn them off in the app's Settings: which
screens you open and which features you use (adding a recipe, picking tonight's dinner),
with the device model, operating system, app version and an approximate region worked
out from your internet address. When you are signed in they are linked to a random
account number, never your name or email address, so that using Kerasma on a phone and
a computer counts as one person. They never include your recipes or anything you type,
and they are used only to decide what to improve.
There is no advertising code of any kind. The app never reads your device's advertising ID,
and nothing it collects is used to follow you across other apps or websites.
Where it is kept, and who can see it
If you sign in and join a family, your recipes, photos, voice memos and grocery list are
stored in Google Firebase and shared with the other members of that family. That is the point of
joining one. Nobody outside your family can read them, and a family can only be joined
with an invitation. If you do not sign in, your recipes never leave your device; crash reports
and usage statistics are sent as described above unless you turn them off.
If somebody asked you for a recipe
A link to send somebody a recipe opens a page here, with no app and no account. What you send
from it, the recipe, any photos of the card and the name you give, goes to the person who asked
and their family's recipe box, and nowhere else. Until you send it, what you type is kept only
in your own browser, so a lost connection loses nothing; it is cleared once it's sent. The page
sets no tracking cookies and talks to nobody but the app's own Google Firebase project.
Who else is involved
Google provides sign-in, storage and notifications (Firebase), and
receives the crash reports (Firebase Crashlytics) and usage statistics (Google
Analytics). Google Play also handles any purchase you make in the app.
Anthropic is involved only if you use an optional AI feature, such as
scanning a handwritten recipe card. The text or photo you submit is sent to be read,
and the result comes back. This happens only when you ask for it, never
automatically.
Your information is never sold, and it is not shared with anyone else.
Keeping and deleting it
Your information stays until you remove it. You can delete recipes, photos and voice memos
in the app. Settings → Delete my account permanently deletes your account and personal
data, including any recipe box only you use. Recipes you added to a family's recipe box stay
with that family, for the people you shared them with. You can also email the address below
and it will be done for you.
Crash reports are kept for 90 days and usage statistics for at most 14 months, then deleted
automatically. Neither holds your name, email address or recipes. To have the usage statistics
linked to your account deleted sooner, email the address below.
Children
Kerasma is not aimed at children, and it does not knowingly collect information from
anyone under 13.
